Last weekend, in the midst of closing on our house, moving, and focusing most of our time, energy and attention on us, we were reminded why we love photographing weddings so much: it’s an entire day where we’re able to get completely lost in other people. After being so focused on our own life, it was such a gift to be able to spend an entire weekend putting other people first. To forget about anything and everything that’s happening in our world — and be invited into one of the most important days in someone else’s world.
Our first of two weddings last weekend was at the Four Seasons Scottsdale with Megan and James, designed by the always incredible Whitney Lewis at Some Like It Classic and the talented team at Lux Florist. A few months ago, we had the chance to photograph Megan, James and their three beautiful children (Brandon, Bailey and Emma; cute names, right?) at the same place where they’d get married just a few months later; and, from that moment, we knew it’d be a wedding we’d never forget.
Megan was so joyful and excited about every aspect of her big day, from the design and decor, to her family and friends who joined from all over the country for their destination wedding from Connecticut to Arizona. It was especially special to watch them both interact with their kiddos. There’s enough love between that fantastic five to last a lifetime. One of our personal favorite moments from the day was watching the kids, without prompting, surround their mom and dad at the ceremony altar. Megan and James almost didn’t even notice. They were so deep in devotion to each other. We think that’s probably why they have such great kids: they put each other first.
Megan and James, we’ll never forget our first Skype call with you or your engagement session — and we certainly won’t forget your beautiful wedding day. But do you know what we’ll remember most and not just not forget? The fun you had from start to finish, and the kindness you showed us and everyone around you. Never stop doing those two things and your life will be as beautiful as your wedding day. We love you both and hope you love your memories as much as we loved saving them.
