Happy Thursday, friends! We’re finally home (for a few days!) after a two-week trip to Virginia to shoot a few weddings in Arizona before jumping back on a plane Monday morning for another week-long stint on the road. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks, but we’re SO looking to hibernating in July and August, you guys! Spending 85% of June away from home has us REALLY missing our own bed… and our sweet kitties, too!
Today, though, we’re excited – like SNL’s “Target Lady” excited – to share a first for us with you: an engagement session in Washington D.C.
If you know anything about Jordan, you know how much he just loves all things politics. His favorite movie is The American President, his top TV show of all-time is The West Wing, and he falls asleep to C-SPAN at night. He was voted “Most Likely to Be President” of our senior class, he majored in history in college, and he knows more about the government than most men know about sports. He just can’t get enough of it! He’s a verified political junkie.
So, in short, this was his dream session location.
Enter Calyn.
Four years ago, in the earliest stages of our business, Calyn hired us to take her high school senior photos. She was 18, the same age we were when we started dating ten years ago. We remember it well, because she was the opposite of every negative teenage stereotype. She was calm, confident, sweet and well-spoken. Smart and beautiful. A good conversationalist. Clearly standing at the edge of the rest of her life with the wind at her back and big things ahead.
We also remember her telling us that she was headed to New York City for college, The Big Apple. She didn’t have a boyfriend at the time, but she’s been a loyal blog reader ever since, a #ajbride before Instagram even existed.
Enter Aaron.
When Calyn emailed us to tell us that she was engaged, we couldn’t believe it! Not because we couldn’t believe she found her future husband. Of course not! She’s wonderful. But because it reminded us that we’ve been in business long enough for one of our seniors to be old enough to get married! She’s stuck with us through two years of teaching elementary school. She was there when we went full-time. She’s seen it all, read it all, and knows it all, and we had the biggest smile on our faces when her email came through!
We can’t even begin to tell you just how honored and humbled we were! This is just too cool! So special.
Calyn, we love you, and now we love Aaron, too! They way you interact together. The way you laugh. The conversations we has in between the photos. We just seriously loved everything about our time with you two! Thank you for re-arranging your schedule and training down from New York City to make this once-in-a-lifetime session happen. Aaron’s and Jordan’s dream came true. Now if we can just figure out how to make Demos-Rabinow 2040 a winning ticket…
We’re counting down the days until your wedding this winter and when you place those rings on each other’s fingers, just know that it’ll be a full circle moment for us in that instant, too.
If you liked this DC engagement, you’ll also love Haley & Tom’s NYC engagement or Michelle & Jonathan’s Redondo Beach engagement.
